Was elected to and served in the 58th, 59th, 60th, 61st Congresses, announcing his intention to retire when nominated for the latter; retired for one term; was unanimously designated and confirmed at the primaries in 1912, and elected to the 63d Congress, receiving 19,320 votes to 13,150 for Edward J. Raldiras, Progressive, 8,779 for Peter Wynne, Republican and Independence League; 2,351 for Poulitsch, Socialist, and 64 for the Prohibitionist, Freece.
