National Woman's Party Textile Collection - 1913.043

Rectangular tricolor banner in vertical bands of yellow ("gold"), white, and purple ("violet") wool. Each strip is attached to the next with flat-felled seams and the banner is hemmed at either side. At one edge is a white cotton twill hanging tube, stamped on the reverse in purple with the words "Copeland Makers Washington" in all capitals. A wooden pole is threaded through the hanging tube and attached to it with nails at either end. At each end of the pole is a hole through which the end of a white cord is threaded and knotted.

White-painted fluted wooden banner pole with removable black pleated metal ball finials at either end and gold-colored cord attached with screw eyes at ends of pole. One additional screw eye is loose on cord. A monofilament fishing line is also tied to screw eyes.

Round wooden pole with white cord threaded through hole in one end and knotted to secure. Opposite end is designed to be identical, but cord has come unknotted and pulled loose from pole. Nails in either end of pole on inside edge of cord holes. Cord ends have metal crimps.

Rectangular banner in orange and white stripes with dark blue inset in upper left corner with appliqued white felt lettering on both sides reading "Votes for Women." Appliqued blue felt lettering on both sides of lower right stripes also reads "Votes for Women." Stripes are stitched together with flat-felled seams and hemmed at all sides. Inset is attached with a double row of zigzag stitch. Felt letters are appliqued on in running stitch. At far left of banner are five sets of cotton plain-weave ties, probably for hanging on a pole. A strip of cotton webbing tape is applied to the edge of the banner reverse next to the hanging ties with conservation stitching.

Teal green cotton sateen banner with painted yellow lettering reading "In memory of Clara Barton" in capitals. Banner has decoratively-cut bottom edge in curve and point shape and four self-fabric loops at top edge for hanging, and is backed in yellow cotton sateen. Banner is stiffened, either by interior paint or an interlining. Self-fabric hanging loops are threaded onto a wooden pole and loops at either end are nailed to pole. Pole has hanging chain attached with eye screws at either end.

Banner is backed in same fabric, with edges sewn together to form hanging tube at top. at either side of top edge are pieces of loose-weave cotton tape knotted to the fabric, probably for hanging. A strip of braided black tape sewn to the reverse of the center of the top edge, also probably for hanging. Pieces of the same tape are sewn at either bottom edge on reverse.
