"Failure" is written in upsweeping curve with enlarged "F" while other words are written straight across beneath. Original chalk or ink markings are visible under paint. Banner is rectangular with applied gold fringe along pointed bottom edge. Top edge forms a hanging tube where front and back layers meet. Red, white, and blue Ohio state flag (pennant shape). Pennant is wool with white cotton duck or canvas hanging tube at far left, with silver-toned grommets at either end next to each of which was a nail, probably hand-forged and possibly predating the banner (nails have been removed and retained). Dark blue triangular section at far left has thirteen appliqued white stars and a central "bull's-eye" motif of a red circle surrouned by a white ring. Two white stripes alternate with three red stripes for the remained of the pennant, gradually decreasing in width and extending into two points at the pennant's far right edge.

Wide rectangular banner of beige cotton sateen with yellow wool gauze border and faded black lettering reading "We demand the Susan B. Anthony Amendment for the enfranchisement of women." Banner is reversible and has same design on both sides with a layer of heavy cotton interlining between the two sateen layers. Yellow border has mitered corners. There are three braided ties, possibly silk, at the right edge and two (originally three) at the left edge for hanging on poles.

The lettering appears to have originally read "Republican," but a leg was added to the "P" to make it an "R" after the banner was originally made. Curved bottom is edged in yellow fringe. Top of banner is nailed to a finished wooden pole to which a hanging cord is knotted.

Bottom of banner is cut into points and edged in yellow fringe. Turquoise letters appear to have been painted over silver paint or pigment. Banner is backed in same dark blue fabric, joining the front at the top edge to create a tube for hanging. Through tube is wooden pole with gold-painted acorn-shaped finials, the right finial removeable. The banner is nailed to the pole with one nail at either end.
